Talking Society: Is Having a Racial Preference in Dating Okay?
I’m still learning about this, but I’ve always wondered about the notion of having a racial preference. Is it ok? Is it not ok? Are there grey areas?? Why do people say they have racial preferences? Is it based in something more problematic than we realize? So many questions. In this episode, I try to unpack some of these questions through research and personal reflection.
Quote of the day:“The fact is, who we love is subtly and not so subtly influenced by society and its rigid racial hierarchies. The racism that permeates almost every aspect of our everyday lives extends to our dating preferences.” - Danielle Williams
Important disclaimer: This episode explores how societal biases shape dating preferences. It is NOT meant to shame individuals, but to examine unconscious patterns. Attraction is complex; if this challenges you, we invite you to sit with that discomfort. We’re discussing broad trends, not personal attacks. Additionally, we understand that this is just one perspective. Have a different take? DM us @notesandquotespodcast.
